Announcing MP-Lite

We are please to announce the release of our new simplified Windows backup client. Some of our less “Tech Savvy” users felt that the MillerNET Protect Online Backup Manager (OBM) was too complex and offered too many options. We listened and now have a simple, quick and easy, point and click solution.

MP-Lite Screen shot

Here are some of the highlights.

  • Easy to Use - A configuration wizard is prompted after installation to guide users in backup settings. Manual backups or restores can be accomplished with a click.
  • Set it and Leave it - MP-Lite will back up all your selected files automatically on schedule.
  • Complete Protection Even when Files are Opened - E.g. MP-Lite can backup your Microsoft Outlook data even when you are editing your emails. MP-Lite leverages on Microsoft’s latest Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework available in Windows XP to consistently back up open files without additional applications or plug-ins.
  • Top Security and Military Level Encryption - All your data is 128 bit-encrypted and compressed before uploaded through a SSL-enabled channel to MillerNET. Data on the backup server remains encrypted. No one, not even MillerNET, can read the files. Decryption is possible only with user’s password.
  • Web Access just like Your Online Briefcase - Our web interface allows users to restore their backed up files from anywhere at anytime without requiring the client software.

If you are an existing user free or paid account and would like to move to MP-Lite, use the contact us form to request a change to your account type.

The Promo has ended.

Well we finally removed the promo from the site. It stayed up a little longer that expected due to the overload on the ecommerce server and an internet outage on my end.

We had a great response and were able to add more storage than we initially planned. I have some other promotions planned so stay tune.

BTW, If you missed out on the promotion and still really want in, just post a great story related to PC backup and or a data disaster as a comment on the blog and I will set you up with double the space. Heck, I’ll even throw the first month in for free (No CC required).

System upgrade completed

We just finished a software upgrade on our backup server. In addition to correcting a few minor issues, we added the following new features:

  • Backup/Restore operations are now 4 - 10 times faster.
  • All new free accounts receive 5GB of space for the first 30 days.
  • The new client automatically finds your Outlook mail store folder.

We also corrected a couple of broken links in the backup report emails as well. If you would like to “re-start” your free account and try 5GB for 30 days free, just re-install the OBM (Online Backup Manager) and use a different username. You may also want to send me a quick email to remove your old account so the sever doesn’t keep sending you backup reminders.

To update/re-install the OBM, go here to download the latest version. When you install it, the old client will be removed for you and the new one will be setup with with your previous settings.

We are starting to fill up our current storage array and will need a major expansion soon. It all boils down to economy of scale and the larger I make the expansion, the lower my costs are per user. If I can lower my costs, I will lower yours as well.

So… I am going to try a bold experiment. In an effort to dramatically increase the number of users and reduce the cost for all of us, I have come up with two offers that I think you are going to love. Read the rest of this post »

"Backup Failed"? What to do

Categories: Tips / How to

You may have even received a backup report indicating that your backup has failed. This isn’t as serious as it sounds, and it emphasizes how important the backup reports are. A backup that has failed in many cases has backed up all but one file, and in some cases, backed up nothing. That’s why we provide you with a detailed report describing the problem.

The two most common causes for failed backups are: Read the rest of this post »

Optimizing Your 200MB Account

Posted June 9th, 2006 by
Categories: Tips / How to

I was looking at the activity logs and noticed that there are many people that have reached the 200MB limit on their online backup account. This is understandable as the default setup includes your entire “My Documents” folder. I thought it would be helpful to write a quick “how to” on setting up the MillerNET Protect Online Backup Manager to make the best use of your 200MB account. Read the rest of this post »
